Tournament Rules

Tournament Format

  • Teams consist of two players.
  • At least one player from each team must be an active WAAA member to participate.
  • Tournament format will consist of round-robin pool play followed by a single-elimination championship bracket.
  • Tournament officials reserve the right to adjust format based on the number of teams, weather, and or other circumstances.
  • Teams must be present to win.

Prize Structure

Standard Payout:

  1st Place – $500

  2nd Place – $100

  3rd Place – $50


WAAA Member Team Bonus:

If both teammates are active WAAA members in good standing, winnings are doubled:

  1st Place – $1,000

  2nd Place – $200

  3rd Place – $100

Game Play

  • Games are played to 21 points (no "bust" rule).
  • Cancellation scoring will be used.
  • A team does not need to win by two points.
  • Teams alternate throwing bags.
  • Each player throws four bags per inning.
  • Players must remain in their designated pitching box during each throw.

Scoring

  • Bag through the hole = 3 points.
  • Bag completely on the board = 1 point.
  • Bag touching the ground before resting on the board = 0 points.
  • Bags hanging into the hole without falling through count as 1 point.
  • Opposing points cancel each other each inning. Example:
    • Team A scores 7 points.
    • Team B scores 4 points.
    • Team A receives 3 points for the inning.

Match Time Limits

Pool play games may be subject to a time limit at tournament director discretion. Championship bracket games will be untimed, whenever possible. Tournament officials reserve the right to modify time limits to keep the event on schedule.

Coin Toss

  • A coin toss determines first throw and side selection unless tournament director provides alternative method.
  • Winning team alternates first throw in subsequent games.

Equipment

  • Tournament boards and bags will be provided.
  • Personal bags may be used only if approved by tournament officials.
  • Approved bags must be regulation size and weight.

Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is expected at all times!

Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in:

  • Warning.
  • Loss of points.
  • Forfeit of a game.
  • Removal from the tournament without refund.

Examples include:

  • Excessive profanity.
  • Abusive language.
  • Harassment.
  • Throwing bags in anger.
  • Intoxication resulting in unsafe behavior.

Forfeits

  • Teams will have five minutes after being called to report to their assigned board.
  • Failure to report may result in a forfeit.
  • Substitutions are not permitted after tournament play begins except at tournament director discretion for emergencies.

Alcohol Policy

  • Open bar service is provided courtesy of WAAA and sponsors.
  • Participants are expected to drink responsibly.
  • Any participant creating an unsafe environment may be removed from the event.
  • No outside alcohol is permitted.

Family-Friendly Environment

  • This event is intended to be family friendly.
  • Participants are expected to conduct themselves appropriately around children and guests.
  • Indoor waterpark passes are available for purchase through Tundra Lodge.

Tournament Director Authority

Tournament officials have final authority regarding:

  • Rules interpretation.
  • Scoring disputes.
  • Format adjustments.
  • Weather or schedule modifications.
  • Player conduct.

All decisions of tournament officials are final.
